Former Rangers hero Barry Ferguson, most recently manager at Alloa Athletic, has suggested the same as Ibrox Noise, calling into question the signing policy and who’s behind it, wondering why we’ve spent essentially £6M on a bench warmer with Ridvan Yilmaz just not getting any minutes at all.

True, the Turkey international struggled badly on his debut v Killie, but has looked bright on his brief cameos since then and has surely put himself in contention especially given how badly Borna Barisic’s form has tumbled recently.

But while he’s likely to start tomorrow’s cup match v Dundee, Yilmaz is too expensive not to be playing, and Ferguson is right to ask why not.

Ibrox Noise ended up in a spat this summer with a reader over her insistence that Borna was first choice, and Yilmaz would have to earn his place. We suggested that Rangers wouldn’t sign a £6M international fullback not to play him, and the Croat was done.

As it turns out, she was more correct than even she would imagine, given how badly Barisic has played lately yet Ridvan still isn’t being considered.

Ferguson, for his part, struggled at Alloa, winning just one match, with new manager Brian Rice showing how it’s done as the Wasps have started putting together some good results and getting into contention for a playoff place, so Ferguson’s wisdom might be questionable with regards Gio’s management, but we have to admit he’s got a point here.

What now for Yilmaz?

He deserves a chance, simply because he cost so much – if Gio sticks him in and he completely sinks, fair enough – that’s why we have Backwards Barisic.

But give him the shot, and not just for a cup game Gio.

  1. Barry’s only echoing what a lot of us are saying about this situation between board Wilson and GVB. Backward Borna is in need of dropping . Young Ridvan could maybe reawaken Kent too. Its not a good situation .
