Rangers are just an SFA ruling away from being reduced to just one defender after Leon King was set to face trial by tribunal following a pretty poor challenge v Motherwell.

Hauled in front of the Compliance Officer (Andrew Phillips these days), King is likely to get away with his indiscretion, but there’s still a chance the panel could give him a retrospective and leave Rangers with just Ben Davies as the only singular defender available.

Mercifully the pull Davies suffered against Liverpool didn’t turn out serious enough to rule him out for Motherwell, and that the improving stopper is still available is rather helpful in light of the utter crisis Rangers have at the back.

So losing King would be far from ideal, and it may still happen, but time will tell. If it did, our point about James Sands would become even more prominent, even if a number of fans absolutely do not rate the USA international.

Which would mean Sands and Davies would be the next defensive partnership for the club, in a revolving door of defence where flux is the name of the game and Rangers’ options are thin at best and drastic at worst.

That said, you’d think Rangers, even dipping into the kids, would still have enough about them at the back to withstand the might of Dundee, but hey, these days, who even knows.

Hopefully the SFA do see in our favour and don’t deprive us of yet another defender.

  1. It was a naive challenge from King but I don’t think it was bad enough to merit looking at again. He didn’t send the player off on a stretcher or anything. They should be more focused on cleaning up the game from the perspective of what is happening in the stands. Seems like security never deals with people throwing objects on the pitch even even they are facing the spectators. As for the debate about who to put in the middle wouldn’t Barisic do a makeshift job at CB with Yilmaz outside him? I mean the guy is a defender after all. Sadly after letting Katic and Balogun go the board also saw fit to loan out the younger options in Lewis Mayo and James Maxwell. I also thought when we signed Zukowski we were told he was a RB who could also deputise as CB or a DM? But we loaned him out too. If it wasn’t such a fiasco it would be laughable.
