Ridvan seeks Rangers exit in January after Euro giants make move

Reports in Turkey claim, legitimately, that Ridvan Yilmaz is happy to stay and fight for his Rangers place until January, but that if the situation at Ibrox does not improve for the former Besiktas man, he will seek a move away early next year, completely understandably.

The 21-year old left back has been mostly overlooked at Ibrox since joining from the Turkish giants, with Croat Borna Barisic preferred entirely in that berth, and now the new boy is weighing up his options, considering a January departure to be prudent if need be.

It’s a bit of a shambles really – deep into October and the signing absolutely hasn’t worked – he looked bright in his cameo v St Mirren but it seems Barisic is remaining in place for the foreseeable future despite the club shelling out nearly £6M on Ridvan.

While reports at this point claim Galatasaray are interested in him on loan, we’re not sure we see the point of that.

Yilmaz will gain no more by going back to Turkey than he already had before joining Rangers, so we see no profit for the club by loaning him to the Super Lig. Only selling.

It’s a bizarre one – as we said some time ago, ‘Rangers aren’t signing a £6M LB only to keep him on the bench – Borna is finished’ – and yet that’s exactly what’s happened, and we were completely wrong.

But then, we shouldn’t have been, should we?

We can’t see this one changing any time soon.

  1. Under Gio, he does not have a future and doubt that Gio sanctioned the move for him so if Ridvan goes, the better for all concerned like a few other players
