Bassey finally breaks silence on Rangers rumours

Calvin Bassey has for the first time ‘directly’ addressed the transfer speculation surrounding him by posting a message hinting at his intention to stay at Ibrox.

The 21-year old defender, Rangers’ most prized asset at the moment and highly in demand, has been centre of intense speculation over his future, not helped by a blunder which placed someone (if not himself) related to him at Wolves’ training ground, promoting a chauffeur company.

And his silence otherwise wasn’t helping matters, with fans seeking a word or two confirming intentions one way or the other.

But in an Instagram message he appeared to be hinting at staying at Rangers with a warm message of celebration and reflection of the season past and a ‘see you soon’ to his followers.

It’s the first real communication Rangers fans have had from the Nigerian international over the speculation, and while his message was aimed generically at his followers, he knows 90% of them are Rangers fans.

We will say all this has a small catch:

Bassey restricted the replies to stop people asking him about his future, leaving only people he follows/friends able to reply, and preventing floods of Rangers fans asking him about the speculation. Understandable really.

Hopefully it’s a good sign and he’s here to stay.
