Rangers fans will certainly keep a keen eye on FC Midtjylland v Cypriots Larnaca as the winner will be in the unseeded non-champion path in the third round of the Champions League, with Rangers due to play the winner of that tie or Monaco, Sturm Graz, or Belgians Union Saint.
The competition for next season began to take shape yesterday as the first round draw was made, a stage or two well below where Rangers come in, and today it was the turn of the stage which will affect Rangers directly, by pairing up the Danes with the Cypriots for a place in the third round draw.
Fellow third round seeds Kiev were given unseeded Fenerbahce, which could shake things up slightly if the Turks win but won’t have any seeding or pot implications affecting Rangers, just the potential for the playoff round opponent options to be slightly different.
But for now, let’s stick with round two and three and the fact Rangers now know the matchup which will give one of the four options we’ll face in the third round.
Midtjylland or Larnaca.
I thought Midtjylland were a decent side when we played them a few years back. Not a gimme at all.
