Malik Tillman appears, to the relief of many Rangers fans worldwide, to have confirmed he will not be joining Rangers after updating his Instagram account again to remove the newly-installed photo of himself in the Rangers kit, replacing it with his country instead.

Furthermore, we understand he also unfollowed the private Rangers Instagram club account Michael Beale set up secretly for Rangers players.

The only references now left to Rangers on the 20-year-old’s Instagram account are the last four main posts which do still contain Rangers content, but he’s hardly likely to erase them because they’re his career.

In terms of social media though, he now appears to have confirmed he will not be joining the club, and it begs the question of why he changed his social media to Rangers only to change it to USA shortly after.

A tease? A taunt? A change of heart? Or some other reason we’re not aware of – we really are puzzled why he changed it to us. Perhaps it was close but fell apart?

The unfollow of the club account is the big deal though, that is the most telling sign he and Rangers will not be continuing their relationship.

It means that even though sources told us Rangers were ready to pay the £5.2M for the American, he himself has decided he doesn’t want to remain at Ibrox.

And that is what it boiled down to – Tillman was always vague and cryptic on the whole thing, but couldn’t stop hinting that Bayern were his first choice. That’s where he wants to be and that’s his ambition.

He falls deeply short at the moment of being anywhere near good enough for a Bundesliga 2 side never mind the top dogs in the whole country, but he wants to give it a shot it seems.

Or to find another club entirely.

What seems to be clear is no part of Tillman wants to be a Rangers player, and we’re absolutely delighted he feels that way.

A player we didn’t need, and who would have cost a bomb. And most Rangers fans were against that.
