Shock start for Scott Arfield as Rangers prepare for Celtic?

Some days ago we talked about the Morelos Colak dilemma facing Michael Beale as Rangers gear up to face Celtic at Parkhead, but there’s also another puzzle – Malik Tillman or Fashion Sakala.

While there is grey area for ‘other possibilities and combinations’, if we break it down to current binary then it’s either Morelos or Colak up top, and either Tillman or Sakala wide right.

And that’s a tough one to call.

See, many would say it really isn’t, that it’s Tillman’s place given his form, but the problem with Tillman is he’s vanished in almost every big match he’s played, and the praise he gets tends to be as a result of form when up against St Mirren and Dundee Utd.

He’s been out of his depth three times already against Celtic this season, being unmitigated garbage at Hampden before being removed. So what makes this time different?

But then there’s Sakala. Who had all the hype going into Hampden, and he didn’t just choke, he passed out completely.

So in reality, the big surprise we could have is neither of them is in the starting XI at all, and Michael Beale really does spring a surprise, as has been suggested in some of the press.

Who could fit in ahead of both of them from the start, or, as we suspect, are most fans reading this with an eyebrow raised at not starting them?

Sakala is overrated tot. There. We’ve said it. He’s either a moment of mad genius or 89 minutes of absolute rubbish. He’s a selfish-minded player who will always be immature. Tillman is out of his depth v Celtic and never influences these matches. Maybe Michael Beale believes Saturday’s clash is his time to prove that one wrong.

But as for a replacement? Arfield. Scott Arfield.

Not that difficult really is it. Scotty will give the earth, he has played almost all Old Firms since joining, and has only really lost favour the past year or so. But if you want a top player who will not let you down in these huge matches, we can think of none better.

We don’t even need to make the case for him, it speaks for itself.
