If there is one thing Rangers fans are 99% in unison on, it’s that we need a new goalkeeper. While the hapless and completely inadequate Jon McLaughlin has received a torrent of justified criticism, finding himself among the lofty elite of Steve Simonson, Lee Robinson, Cammy Bell and other alumni, Allan McGregor doesn’t escape either – the number one is just too old now, too slow, and he’s on his last legs.

He was world class during 55, impossibly good and one of the best goalkeeping seasons we’ve ever seen, but that’s in the past now and time has caught him up.

So we can’t rely on either of them and with Robby McCrorie apparently still injured, we honestly desperately and painfully need a couple of new keepers.

The problem is there are no free agents worth any damn currently available, the best of those looking for a club is former Vallecano stopper Iván Mauricio Arboleda, a Colombian international (one cap four years ago) at just 26.

He’s nothing special and his career is journeyman.

This is why Ibrox Noise are infuriated we signed McLaughlin ahead of far, far better options such as Siegrist and Ozer, both of whom found alternative paths after Rangers didn’t make the move and instead went for a Sunderland reject.

We’re even more flabbergasted he got a two-year extension to take him beyond this season.

But no point crying over spilled milk – goals is by far Rangers’ weakness now, and our only real hope is McCrorie becomes available soon because we’ve got absolutely no one else.

We will have to wait till the summer to find someone good enough to be our new number one, because only one of our current options is even a contender.

It’s nowhere near acceptable for Rangers to have this bad a goalie situation, given the illustrious past in that position. To go from Woods, to Goram, to Charbonnier, to Klos, to McGregor, to this now… is quite the plummet.

We hope this gets fixed soon because we really can’t handle any more of Jon McLaughlin in our sticks. Can you?

  1. I’ve already posted that this could cost us cups and a good finish this season. Beale has decided so he will be held responsible as will the board . Bad choices that could have been easily fixed .

  2. If we all can see it, im sure beale does too. I know he’s bummed them up in his pressers but what else is he going to do. Hes trying to make them feel good. Im sure the keepers know the writing is on the wall aswell. Mcrorie needs to go out on loan to prove he’s good enough, or maybe when he’s back from injury he gets a few games before the end of the season. Imo they’ll be looking at getting a keeper or 2 in the summer. Can’t be going into European football with McLaughlin.
