When did Rangers’ midfield just stop playing?

When the dust has settled and we look at the big picture, that result was coming. From what I can see there are more results like that coming. All fans have targeted attacking players such as Kent and Matondo and rightly so. All have attacked the whole back 4 and rightly so.

But like how Derek detailed earlier, I have to agree on the midfield problems.

I have always believed your midfield is the heartbeat of your side. Right now our midfield is lacking in every department. I start with the slow passing (hardly ever first time passing), as soon as we take a touch, hard-working teams always have a chance of winning the ball back.

The winning of second balls (reading the game) is slower than the passing rate and our numbers for that must be terrible. Colak put us two up against Hearts but until Devlin got sent off we were not even dominating Hearts’ midfield.

We won 0-4 against 10 men and it became our best performance of the season, I never saw that evidence. PSV away is the single 90-minute performance this season which has been top level, with a case for St Mirren at home as well.

The team spirit is badly lacking and the pelters and blame that Fashion Sakala took from Tavernier and Lundstram Wednesday night after their own individual performances was nothing short of disgusting especially when Sakala went past his marker 5 or 6 more times more than Ryan Kent.

3-5-2 is the only way ahead from what I can see. I say that because we do not have the players to carry out the formation/style that Gio is trying to carry out, as Derek also highlights. And the main thing is it gets us more bodies in the midfield where we are being outfought, outpassed and outplayed.

Time for big changes.

  1. They are a joke !allowed him and cronies big money 💰 and they couldn’t pick ther noses get them and wee Wilson and get him oot in ear ! Sean Dyce could help to end this joke of a team

  2. Totally agree. Today we had Lundstram and Arfield in midfield. Tillman does not help with his style of play.
We are being over run particularly in Europe.
Two wide playing wingers and one striker. None of them play as a unit.
All of our midfield and forwards play in isolation.
This is down to a manager who cannot see the obvious.
Nothing will improve as long as we have Van Bronckhorst
