Rangers scouts watched this midweek’s unders clash between Croatia and Denmark, with sources suggesting Ajax’s Mohamed Daramy could have been one of the targets, the winger currently on loan, ironically enough, in his home country of Denmark with Copenhagen.

There was, of course, a tonne of talent in this one, scouts globally taking in the clash in, and both are countries who produce a boatload of quality young players, so perhaps chief scout John Park was actually doing his job properly and scoping out genuine quality to advance the side.

Croatia and Denmark both have excellent relationships with Rangers, both countries supplying our club with a LOT of talent over the years – Laudrup, Lovenkrands, Bo Anderson, Katic, Barisic, Colak – a strong stream of players who hail from both these nations.

There is of course the small matter of a certain Andy Skov Olsen who in the end chose FC Brugges rather than Rangers, who not long ago was gracing the shirt of his country’s unders as well.

The reality is U21 is a treasure trove of talent – players who are already worth upwards of multimillion pound numbers are in abundance here, but of course many undiscovered gems are in there too, and a match like Denmark Croatia is going to bloom with quality all over the park.

We’ll see if our Park found anything on this one.
