Final member of Rangers’ ‘Surplus Five’ has been told to leave

And finally the confirmation of what Ibrox Noise reported months ago, the last remaining member of the ‘Surplus Five’ Stephen Kelly has now confirmed his future is away from Rangers.

At the start of the window, we reported Jake Hastie, Jack Simpson, Glenn Middleton, Niko Katic and Stephen Kelly had been informed they were not in Rangers’ plans going forward and to find new clubs.

Naturally the mention of Katic among these attracted angry abusive replies, with allegations of us being liars, but we’d rather that had been the case. Sadly not, as Gio confirmed not long after that Katic was to find a new club.

Hastie has moved on to Hartlepool, Simpson went to Cardiff, Middleton to Utd, and Gio added Katic to the excess.

The one remaining player was Kelly, and now the man himself has confirmed the club has advised him to seek a new employer and that it won’t be working for him at Rangers.

Which sees officially the end of the five players Gio just wasn’t interested in.

Katic and Kelly will now seek their new employers, with departures to take place as soon as possible, or they will go back out on loan for the season and wind their contracts down to an end next summer.

It is what it is, and Gio has made his call.

In Gio We Trust.

  1. Saddened deeply with Katic, his blood runs blue and would run through walls for us, this is a mistake Gio will regret big time unless he buys a few more players within the next few days

  2. Would have kept Katic and Balogun before signing Souttar. Kelly could have a really bright future somewhere and at one time he was being lauded as a key future player for us. We’ll never know sadly but we aren’t the ones keeping tabs on his progress.
