Giovanni van Bronckhorst has reportedly made his decision on Niko Katic, and the Dutch Master has dispensed with the Croat who is set to leave Rangers.

As we reported, the giant stopper, returned from his loan to Split, is very far down the pecking order, and despite his popularity with fans is completely isolated from the manager, who is putting his own stamp on the team.

These reports this morning come as no surprise at all, and with just that year to run on his deal Rangers are looking to cash in and get even a six-figure sum for his signature – Katic’s market value is extremely modest and Rangers would be thrilled with close to a million.

Of course, these reports could be wrong, and GVB plans to use Katic, but we’re not convinced about that given how many defenders are in front of him and how distant to the Rangers first team he’s been for two years.

End of the day, Rangers have a lot of depth at CB and Gio will seek to bring in some new bodies as well, so Katic is effectively surplus, however the fans feel about him.

Be very surprised if he’s in our shirt come the close of the transfer window.

  1. I’m surprised given that the reports were that Gio was to take a look at him in pre season before a decision was made. Pretty sure the players are all still enjoying time off, although big Niko seems to be doing all he can to remain in top condition until he returns. He had a reasonable season out on loan at a team that won the cup in a league where the standard is probably equal to if not greater than the SPL. I for one would like to see him given a chance to see where he’s at before a decision was made. I think Gio and the team could get the best out of the big man.
