The Xavi Simons story has surfaced again this morning after confirmation the 19-year old playmaker has not signed a new deal at PSG and is looking unlikely to after Mauricio Pochettino was unable to guarantee him minutes in Paris.

The Dutch attacker, who has been long linked with a stunning move to Govan, seeks a breakthrough to the senior side at PSG, but following the signing of Lionel Messi last season and the retention of Kylian Mbappe a week ago, the similar-styled Simons has fallen even further down the pecking order and now seeks any kind of confidence from management.

But when you have that level of talent ahead of you, you’re not going to get much of a chance and Simons clearly recognises the need to leave Paris and find a club at a high level who will give him minutes.

We must say, a player of this calibre would be a smashing signing, a really exceptional talent who is capable of evolving into a world class playmaker – his talent is such he’s already got 7 appearances for PSG even with Messi and co around him, but he wants more than that.

Is the Dutch connection an advantage for Rangers?

Yes it is – Simons will want a prominent club and one which has great European stock, and that’s Rangers these days, and with Gio van Bronckhorst as manager, this is a coach he will have utmost respect for.

Sure, the league standard is rank, no one denies that, but Euro football and guaranteed minutes (as long as he performs) is appealing especially under this manager.

Simons to Rangers?

It’s possible, don’t count it out.

  1. Simons or not ,I would smash the bank to get a great goalscorer at our club ,it is paramount ,as we lacked goals last season when royally humping teams and having no cutting edge .
Think ross county ,dundee utd ,st mirren etc and even extra time in EUL final ,just no cutting edge .
