Should Rangers make big move for £2M Scotland international?

It’s been a very long time since we uttered the name Lewis Ferguson, but he’s one we do rate on Ibrox Noise even if the majority of the support appears not to.

Indeed, the lad’s name is frequently met by derision when mentioned, and reader response to his moniker when we’ve raised the boy in the past has evolved from soft enthusiasm a few years ago to general disdain these days.

He’s currently in negotiations for a move away from Aberdeen, with at least four European clubs seeking his services, but bartering breaking down with Millwall who had had a £1.5M bid accepted by the Dons.

The fact Aberdeen got an eventual potential £10M for Calvin Ramsay but will accept £1.5M for Ferguson despite his having two years to run shows either the esteem they hold him in or the fact there’s been a bit of a falling out there.

So, you may wonder, the Rangers angle.

We all know the family connections, they’re well-documented – but that’s not and shouldn’t be enough to bring a player to Rangers. His ability has to be good enough.

And truth be told, we think he is. The problem we have is that Lundstram aside, we don’t have one absolutely cemented DM option we can rely on.

Kamara has been off the boil and seeking a move for some time, Jack is frequently injured and not what he used to be, and Davo’s not getting any younger.

This is why us being linked with Harry Winks and Billy Gilmour were not unwelcome, and while Ferguson is different to both of these, he’s reliable.

Is he good enough?

We think he could be, and he’s one we’d like to see in the shirt. Players step up when they get to the right team, no question of that, and Ferguson’s right team is Rangers.

Question is would Gio be interested?

He knows a midfielder when he sees one, and this is his first real window to make his mark in the transfer haul.

Is Ferguson realistic?

If Gio wanted him, would you protest?

  1. Yes we should go for him ,seen him play v us and them and been very impressed every time ,he also comes from good stock .

  2. Always been a fan , he can score goals knows all about the Famous and is at the right age. Not sure though what silly money the Sheep would look for especially given its us . Would be a good addition . I think we will sell a few still too Aribo Kamara and perhaps Barasic.

  3. Was anyone massively excited when we signed Ryan Jack from them on a free? I know I wasn’t but he turned out okay, injuries aside.
You would hope LF would find an extra gear if he signed for us. Its a yes from me!

  4. I honestly haven’t seen enough of the lad to know if he is good enough but I do wonder if his name wasn’t Ferguson whether fans would be that interested. I also don’t fancy the idea of being nailed to the wall by the Sheep on price. They may accept £1.5m for him from elsewhere but I can guarantee you that wouldn’t include us.

  5. I am sure his father could pass on to him that rangers very interested and just to bide his time for a future move ,if the sheep are going to ask silly money .They may be aware this situation could happen and let the boy move for 1.5-2 million .
Solid ,hard ,never injured skilful player who under gio could flourish maybe like baz under dick ,not saying as good before I get hammered .

  6. The boy shows a good attitude and work ethic let go by rangers went to Hamilton and then onto Aberdeen worked hard now a Scotland international scores goals from midfield covers the ground well would be a good signing with jack injuries and from a great Rangers family
