Rangers hit with brand new injury blow as list grows to five

Rangers have been suddenly hit with a mini-injury crisis again as Ivory Coast and Ghana man Mohamed Diomande was added to the list already occupied by Ridvan Yilmaz, Oscar Cortes, Ryan Jack and Danilo.

The 21-year-old sustained a thumb injury v Celtic and had to undergo surgery, and while it’s not thought to be long term (this is the new 7-10 days) we will already fear the worst and he won’t be available for the weekend.

This means the excellent situation of just three being out has sadly stretched back up to five, and Rangers’ options have just thinned a little bit.

This also means that two key areas have lost a man, in left back’s Ridvan and midfield’s Dio.

So who replaces Dio? Well, we’ll get to that…

Mercifully Ross County are a genuine bottom-feeder, and while Rangers won’t take the three points for granted over at Dingwall, the low block will be a test and Rangers must bounce back from the dropping of two points at Ibrox last weekend.

While we’re not terribly blown away yet by the Ivorian, he’s still a quality option and we don’t want to lose those, and with manager Philippe Clement installing him recently as absolute first choice, it rotates options a bit and means Clement has to adapt to losing his regular man in there.

But ultimately, what it boils down to is a new and very much unwanted injury in an area where Rangers have been kind of settled, give or take.

There are other options, but the chopping and changing isn’t ideal.

We’ll just have to roll with it.
