Rangers have been strongly linked with a game-changing signing in the form of ex-Chelsea and Borussia Dortmund star Michy Michy Batshuayi, 30, who has rejected a new contract at Fenerbahce and will likely leave the Turkish giants this window if a suitable suitor can be found.

The Belgian international is as top class as strikers who Rangers could reasonably be in for can be, with a stunning 28 goals in 53 in Turkey, not to mention a solid 44 in 120 in Belgium with Liege and he’d represent a superb signing for Rangers, with of course the Philippe Clement angle a big pulling factor for the former Palace star.

This is a 27 in 53 for his country kind of striker, about as close to ‘world class’ as a striker who isn’t quite Erling Haaland can be, that Rangers could actually genuinely attract, along with some good online betting.

Clement is 100% seeking a serious alpha striker this window, he’s happy with the potential of Fabio Silva but he needs one other top range hitman in the January period to bolster the squad for the rest of the season, and Michy could well be the man.

You know it’s a serious target when a simple search of his name on t’internet brings up comments from Celtic fans hoping we don’t get him:

“Linked with Michy Batshuayi, really hope they don’t get him. My God”

Yes indeed, this would be a top signing and with his Turkish adventure, a long way from a fail, coming to an end, Batshuayi, whose name is horrible to spell btw, would represent a stunning addition for Rangers.

The question of course is wages. His current salary is not insurmountable, at around £60,000, but he would need to take a bit of a reduction.

If Rangers are willing to waste £40,000 a week on Connor Goldson and Danilo, a genuine pedigree striker of the calibre of Batshuayi who would cost a bit more than that is absolutely worth it.

Incidentally Michy’s record recently remains good – 11 goals and assists in 21 this season for Fenerbahce.

Hard to be critical of that.

Let’s see if this one happens.
