Rangers need to get cracking in January window

Now, we’re not getting panicky here, but January is almost a third the way through and Rangers have made no changes whatsoever, aside the addition in December of Fabio Silva.

As things stand there are a lot of things ‘happening’ but nothing has actually happened, and we do not want to be in a position of January 2022 when we effectively panic-signed four players in a week and all of them were a disaster.

Now, this isn’t us saying it’s all gone horribly wrong, but the disadvantage of where we are is manager Philippe Clement gets less time inside the winter break to work with the new players, and the chances of them making the Spain trip reduce dramatically.

Rangers really, really need new personnel, and the closer we get to halfway through the month, the less time Clement gets to work with any new recruits.

We already know our squad needs work, and a lot of it, Clement has managed to put a hell of a shine on the turd he has, as opposed to outright polishing it – no one could make a footballer out of Sam Lammers and Sima just isn’t a winger.

But the results under Clement, until Celtic, had been close to imperious, with just a single dropped points at Pittodrie, and PC did learn from it when he faced Aberdeen again at Hampden.

But he can only do so much.

It was made clear by the Belgian that January is a difficult window to do business in, but business can still very much be done here. Last January wasn’t half bad with Todd Cantwell and Nico Raskin coming in.

Even though neither of them have stood the test of time and shone into this season, last season at least both offered a big boost to-then manager Michael Beale.

We need more of that this month, but we need more than two.

We have Fabio, and that’s an ok start, but while the speculated names are coming thick and fast, we’ve not seen enough photos with the scarf.

A few more of those please, and make it snappy.
