Rangers XI for St Mirren – key questions Clement must answer

There is no doubt more attention than normal is on a Rangers XI for the visit of St Mirren to Ibrox today.

After Philippe Clement simply got his selection wrong on Thursday (second match in a row) and once again didn’t admit any error on his part, the Belgian’s choices today are very much in focus.

The big key questions the manager will answer are thus:

Will he keep the notorious Sam Lammers in the starting XI, and even more tellingly, in that ridiculous 10 slot behind the striker?

Will Todd Cantwell start, and will he be wasted on the right again?

Will Abdallah Sima be in the XI too, given the manager called him out for being in bad form?

Will underperforming Connor Goldson just waltz straight back into the XI despite a strong showing from John Souttar on Thursday? Leon Balogun?

Will Ridvan Yilmaz finally get a start or is Borna still untouchable?

Will Ross McCausland start?

And we’d ask if Tavernier would still start despite poor performances but it’s a redundant question.

There are probably a few more as well, some might wonder about Jose Cifuentes but given both Raskin and Jack are injured, there’s no option there at all, so that one isn’t really on the manager, but two duff displays in a row in concert with bad management have led to his choices being infinitely more scrutinised than normal.

Clement got away with his questionable selections while the team was seemingly working and winning, but two stinkers in a row have led to the end of the honeymoon period and fans calling a few bits and bobs out.

Today’s XI will tell if the boss has learned anything at all.
