After all the hype of Todd Cantwell (and Nico Raskin) and how his performances last season earned former manager Michael Beale almost infinite fan faith in the summer market, the continuing downturn of the former Norwich man is there for all to see as he picks up a stupid yellow card for petulance and immaturity.

Yes, he had a brighter match v Sparta, and we acknowledged the improvement in that one, but there’s little denying that this season overall has been a painful disappointment from the playmaker, and while injury has played its part, we appear to be seeing too much of the player Norwich sold and not enough of the one we signed.

His attitude currently stinks, pure and simply. He’s an immature child on the pitch these days, always getting involved in nonsense and now has 3 bookings in his last 6 matches, which is dreadful for a playmaker. Prague aside, his performances are no longer compensating for that level of indiscipline.

We saw the seeds of this nonsense brewing a few months ago – his constant social media fights with Chris Sutton, which were seeing the Sky pundit thoroughly enjoying trolling the Rangers man and frankly clearly getting under his skin.

We know Mutton is a troll, and we told Cantwell to quit that stupidity and concentrate on the pitch – well he’s found a new spin – he’s putting the stupidity out there instead. And he’s also been guilty of diving in the past as well, something fans swept under the carpet because his play was compensating at the time.

And clearly Philippe Clement is seeing this side of him, hence the boy just isn’t starting many under him.

He also had a very insipid preseason which didn’t bode well for the serious stuff.

Rangers do not need another Alfredo Morelos – we had quite enough of a player who picks up dumb bookings and sendings off to last us for a lifetime, and we don’t wish to see history repeat itself.

Cantwell has talent, lord knows we rated him almost 8/10 most matches last season, even giving him 10 at times. This season he’s nowhere close to that level, and he’s the only person who can change that.

Rangers are stronger with him not in the team at the moment, and only he can show Clement why he’s a must-start.

Right now, he’s being upstaged by McCausland and we’re seeing why Norwich dumped him.
