On top of wanting Antonio Colak back, Rangers fans for the majority appear to also want Lawrence Shankland, after a straw poll on Ibrox Noise asked our audience which one Scottish Premiership player they’d like to see in the Light Blue.

While there were a few mentions of Kyogo (yes really), of Miovski, and the occasional mention of Duk (as well as O’Riley), the most common name by a country mile was the Hearts captain, and the ex-Beershot striker, whose form remains outstanding and his stock high, found himself scoring again on that late cameo for his country v Georgia with an outstanding header.

And Rangers fans, generally the bulk anyway, would choose him as the pick of the SPL if they could make a move for any player this league has to offer.

As we say, there were other players mentioned – Motherwell’s Lennon Miller, Aberdeen’s Connor Barron and one or two more, but by a landslide the most regularly-mentioned was Shankland.

Interestingly one user took a dig at this suggestion, implying that these Rangers fans picking Shankland ‘didn’t want Rangers to be successful’.

But more tellingly, only two people agree with him of hundreds of replies.

Shankland would be a popular addition, but again, like Colak, we have no hard evidence Philippe Clement would have any interest in him.

As we’ve alluded to before, the manager isn’t involved in signing players, and will leave that side of the job to a Director of Football, who is soon to be appointed.

But he will still offer his view, and Rangers aren’t going to bring in any player he actively does not want.

Whether Shankland is a player he’d actively want is a completely other story.

The Hearts striker would set Rangers back at least £5M, and we’re not sure we have that amount of cash in January.

We’ll see.
