In yet another example of Rangers’ club mismanagement in recent times, once again fans and media are screaming out for Lawrence Shankland after yet another brilliant moment from the Hearts captain against Rangers, the Scotland forward currently probably regarded as the best striker in the country outside of Rangers and Celtic.

And probably, these days, including. Third-top scorer last season, the on-fire striker would certainly not be cheap, but Ibrox Noise always finds ourselves amused by the about-turn from so many fans after we lobbied repeatedly for his addition, and always found the response from so many to be ‘p*sh, nowhere near good enough’.

The suggestion was rejected repeatedly.

But facts are facts. And Shankland with three for the season is picking up from where last season left off – true, Abdallah Sima is second-top scorer behind Celtic’s O’Riley, so we’re not lacking a good goalscorer at present and Danilo is back doing his thing too.

But the Brazilian is unproven anything like even medium-term never mind long term, and Sima isn’t our player and will go back to England next summer. So Shankland coming in wouldn’t be the worst scenario, especially given the big blots.

That’s right, Cyriel Dessers and, especially, the hideous Sam Lammers are the £9M Rangers, well, Mick Beale, chose to invest in the summer, rather than in a proven SPL scorer like Shankland.

With, in fairness, the backing of most fans, in the sense they didn’t want Shankland either.

January?

It’s plain to see the boy is a striker – and a top one who probably could handle European football let’s face it. How much would Hearts want? Well he’s got another two years on his deal so Rangers are looking at digging deep. Ignore the transfermarkt value of £1.3M, that’s nonsense. Shankland would set Rangers back of upwards of £5M. And that’s based on Philippe Clement wanting him.

And the only way that’s happening is by selling Dessers and Lammers. If anyone will take them.

This is what happens when both the manager and some fans think they know better – we all end up paying for arrogant mistakes.
