Rangers fans have been picking their early Player of the Season, with us now approaching December already (how time flies) and the results are both shocking, and equally unsurprising.
Running a poll on our social media, Ibrox Noise wanted your early pick for POTS, and we must admit we thought it would be a lot closer.
We offered the options of James Tavernier, Abdallah Sima, John Lundstram, Ryan Jack, Todd Cantwell and Jack Butland. And ‘other’, in case we forgot someone massive.
In truth, it wasn’t even a contest.
Of 1400 votes at present, and counting, that second place is James Tavernier with a paltry 52 votes gives some idea of how little the rest of the current squad is actually rated behind the runaway leader who is, as you surely guessed, Jack Butland.
It’s less a contest and more a mauling, and does rather fly in the face of some fans who think the sun shines out of our captain’s posterior!
And that there were no other players even close to Butland (1228 votes) tells you either how good he has been, or how subpar too many of the rest of the squad have been. Probably a bit of both.
Todd Cantwell, a stick on last season to certainly challenge for this honour, was third last with just 24 votes, while ‘other’ only managed 12 meaning there was no one else Ibrox Noise omitted as an obvious choice.
No, Butland the runaway winner and while it’s still mid-November and plenty time for players to catch up, they’ve got a heck of a lead to shorten.
It’s Butland’s award to lose this season.
