Rangers are being linked with a January move for Nathaniel Adjei of Hammarby IF Fotbollförening (Or Hammarby IF to you and I) with the 21-year-old defender attracting a lot of attention from big European clubs, including the Famous, arch-rivals Celtic, and according to the notorious ‘journo’ Alan Nixon, Preston…

The stopper, 6ft 3, is a rising star of Swedish football and with a market value of around £1M would be readily affordable.

According to reports from Ghana, the U21 international significantly impressed Rangers scouts who went to Scandinavia and supposedly did the same for Celtic’s counterparts, and that part of the world has been pretty accurate for Rangers stories recently. A Nigerian outlet was bang on for the Joe Aribo story, so there’s probably something to this one too.

Do Rangers need another defender?

Yes, we do. Currently Philippe Clement’s options are Connor Goldson, Ben Davies, Leon Balogun and John Souttar.

All four of them are older, or regularly injured – Rangers lack reliable and stably fit young defenders with good experience, and if Adjei is such a thing then he may just be a very good option to add to the squad.

Some outlets allege he’d be around £3M, we highly doubt an upper midtable Swedish side is going to charge a vast amount – if HJK were happy to ship out Finland’s top scorer at barely £800K, Rangers can get this lad for a modest sum too.

But we’ll see if this interest goes any further.
