As we reported only yesterday, Robby McCrorie is/was content to be promoted to second choice goalie at Rangers behind Jack Butland, despite asking to leave for minutes.
But it was under the proviso that no good offers came in, and he’d be happy to stay until/unless one arrived, and from what we gather, three clubs are now interested in taking him.
Now, we can probably discount the Manchester United news – he wants minutes, not a seat on the Old Trafford bench. It doesn’t suit him to replace Jack Butland…
The Hull interest is more realistic along with Poland’s Raków Częstochowa. Robby McCrorie is ready to be a first-choice stopper, and these two clubs can potentially offer that.
But Rangers fans are far from happy that he’s got offers on the table and is now certain to leave if he’s interested in any of them, given he’s already told Michael Beale he wants minutes.
The problem is Beale wanted an experienced stopper to replace Allan McGregor – McCrorie is a bit of an unknown quantity in competitive conditions, and while a blind man could tell you he’s good, is he as good as McGregor was at the same age?
We’re less convinced about that.
As it is, Jack Butland has become Rangers’ first pick, first choice in goals, and it’s hard to argue against that aside sentiment of an Auchenhowie graduate being given a chance.
So if any of these three clubs make a serious offer that tempts the Scotland goalkeeper, he will evidently consider it.
But as we say, Robby McCrorie isn’t interested in swapping Rangers’ bench for Man Utd’s – he wants to play.
We’ll see how this one unfolds.
