After last night’s embarrassing performance & scoreline, the focus now needs to be on Sunday.
Lessons need to be taken away from last night, and need to be applied, if not it could be a long international break.

Are wholesale changes required to get a result? Not necessarily but a change in mindset & tactics are required to get a positive result in the hope we end the weekend ahead of ‘them’.

We need to be on the front foot, much like PSV last night, and we don’t give them time on the ball. We need to put pressure on what will be a makeshift defence who will not have played a lot together. Play to our strengths within the squad that we have, which means pace up front.

Goalkeeper – Only one choice here, and that’s Butland. Despite the goals shipped on Wednesday night he was the best player we had on the pitch.

Defence – Tav (no other option unfortunately), Balogun, Souttar, Borna (if he is fit). That’s who I would choose but I get the feeling that Souttar will be the one benched and Goldson will play.

Midfield – Jack, Raskin, Cantwell. I would have Jack and Raskin sitting, and Cantwell given a free role to get on the ball and make things happen.

Front three – Roofe, Danilo, Matondo – all three have pace to use, plus I would have them interchanging to pull the defence out of position. Roofe will not last the 90mins, so would then bring on Sima to exploit his pace also.

We need to be a lot more controlled on the ball, but we also need to ensure that we get the ball up the park quicker, and with greater accuracy. There is pace to burn with those players up top, and with an inexperienced defence we can exploit this.

But no doubt come Sunday it will be a different line up, with a different mentality, and we really need the result to give the fans a boost again after midweek.

Here’s hoping.

  1. After the PSV debacle , Beale clearly needs reinforcements very quickly before the transfer deadline Slams shut ……Get Shankland in & at least 2 defenders ( Soutters bro ) being one .
