“Toxic – 2” – Rangers players rated in Eindhoven

Yet another European humiliation greeted Rangers at Champions League level, as PSV exacted justified revenge for last season.

Ibrox Noise takes you through a disgraceful night in Holland:

Butland:

That we shipped 5 goals and he was our best player showed how bad the rest were – some big saves stopped this shambles being worse than it was, and he can hold his head high. One of few who can. 7

Tavernier:

We’ve been praising him a lot lately, so what does he do? Classic Tavernier at this level. Ball watching multiple times, **** the goal he scored, he just gifted them about 12 back. No idea what role he was playing but he was toxic. Hall of Famer my backside. 2

Goldson:

Started a little better and got some clearances going, but deteriorated rapidly as the night wore on and the own goal summed his night up by the end. No real understanding with Souttar, and that’s been a recurring theme between them. 3

Souttar:

He is helpless next to Goldson, at this level he was made to look foolish, and needs a better partner who can compete. Bad night for him, but a lot is on the partnership. 4

Barisic:

Made some poor decisions, wasn’t reading the match in attack well and all and was a bit cowardly. It sunk hard after he went off though, defensively he’d just about held out till the injury. 5

Lundstram:

Started energetically enough but faded quick, and appeared lost with the system. Wasn’t able to put his foot on the ball at all and offered little defending either. Chasing shadows. 4

Cifuentes:

Looked absolutely lost tonight – his first dud performance. 3

Matondo:

Some good early running which team mates didn’t support, but faded dramatically. He could have been a good out but he lacked any backing. 5

Cantwell:

He REALLY struggled. Had one nice dribble in the first half, and a good lobbed ball in the second, but aside that was posted basically missing the entire 90 minutes. 4

Dessers:

Was running plenty and trying to get in good positions, but lacked real quality and wasn’t going anywhere with any of his touches or passes. Wasted a big chance and looked jaded after 20 minutes. 4

Subs:

Not a one of them impacted the game aside Lammers’ assist, and all were made too late, Sterling helpless out of position at LB. No point rating any of them.

Manager:

After all the backing we’ve given Beale the past couple of weeks, he reverted to type with an appalling team selection. Lunny and Matondo were horrible errors that we absolutely warned against in our prediction, and the shape made no sense. Once again a Beale ‘system’ was incoherent and all the good work he’s done the past couple of weeks feel completely undone. We’re back to not trusting him at all, and we’d say failure to beat Celtic and he might just be a dead man walking. This is not to say we expected to stroll past PSV, but Gio’s lesser Rangers side did, they could go there and without having spent £16M on four duds up front they did it. Beale’s Rangers was never in it in Holland aside a slightly bright opening 10 minutes. Gio had James Sands in his side and still won. This guy got this club humiliated at this level. And spare us the tripe he’ll come out with in his post-match interview. A circa 1-0 loss we can handle, as long as it was a good battle and we just fell short, but this was worse than any group match last season. Hopeless. 0

  1. I already have no trust in Beale he had made more than a few huge wrong decisions. This was appalling PSV outplayed us no doubt about it but they are no UCL quality than we are.
A win against a faltering Celtic is a must if he wants to remain in charge.
Why we sold Colak to spend £15m on 3 forwards who couldn’t find the goals if they had gps is beyond my comprehension.

  2. Oh dear I really hate saying I told everyone so but the Tav Goldson defence whole thing was staring everyone in the face apart from Beale it seems . How many times did PSV get round behind Tav it was basics ffs. I feel for Souttar who is trying to be better but Goldson leaves him stranded. Don’t even start about the three stooges Strikers my arse…Shankland . Once again Cantwell too deep, Lundstram lost and not at this level it seems anymore. It has to be the worst and most embarrassing ever.
