Rangers want Jonathan Panzo. Nottingham Forest want Borna Barisic.

Ergo, the rumours have started about a potential swap deal. Panzo has a market value around £3M, Barisic around £5M, and 2+2 is equalling whatever it equals in this instance with the strong speculation that a swap deal is in the offing where both clubs will get their men.

Rangers would be looking at the £2M plus Jonathan Panzo to make up the club’s valuation of Barisic, so, in short, cash plus player.

It would work well for Michael Beale – he’s chosen Ridvan Yilmaz as his first pick LB for next season, with Barisic now competition for the younger replacement, and via this route would get the left-sided CB partner for John Souttar that he wants.

Will it happen? When there’s a will there’s a way, and Rangers and Forest have not only the Wilson connection but a generally decent relationship given Joe Worrall and Mark Warburton too.

So if it’s deemed Rangers want Panzo as the main leftie CB next season, Borna Barisic may well be used as a major carrot in such a deal.

Is this a good deal if it happens? We’d be ok with it. Panzo is a solid defender, and he’s clearly Michael Beale’s preference, given Beale has a strong ‘thing’ for reuniting with players he worked with at youth level, which is the case here.

And we don’t feel like Barisic is that important going forward, so if the swap deal between these two happens, we’re game for it.
