In the second part of our ‘how much Ross Wilson and Stewart Robertson wasted’ series, having analysed the diabolical loss of transfer fees in the cases especially of Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent, there’s also the disgusting wage scandal.

See, Rangers have lost a staggering amount of cash through pure wage waste, and the more times we see Ben Davies and Rabbi Matondo on around £30,000 a week, the more disturbing Wilson in particular’s use of funds actually is.

Rangers’ top wages, reportedly, are as follows:

Connor Goldson £37,000 £1,924,000 29 D C England
Alfredo Morelos £33,000 £1,716,000 26 ST Colombia
James Tavernier £30,000 £1,560,000 30 D/WB R England
Rabbi Matondo £28,000 £1,456,000 21 AM RL Wales
Ben Davies £27,000 £1,404,000 26 D C England
Kemar Roofe £26,000 £1,352,000 29 AM RLC, F C Jamaica
John Lundstram £22,000 £1,144,000 28 DM England
Tom Lawrence £22,000 £1,144,000 28 AM RLC Wales
Glen Kamara £21,000 £1,092,000 26 DM Finland
Ianis Hagi £21,000 £1,092,000 23 AM RLC Romania
Antonio Čolak £19,000 £988,000 28 ST Croatia
Ryan Kent £18,000 £936,000 25 AM RLC England
Borna Barisic £18,000 £936,000 29 D/WB L Croatia
Filip Helander £14,000 £728,000 29 D C Sw

Long story short, look at the circa 20K and more per week, and the return for that?

Of that list, we can’t argue anyone has provided value for that money. Not a single player in that list looks value for the money they are costing us, with Goldson’s wage especially dreadful for the return we get from him.

Look at the number of them that have cost us a fortune and given so little back for it:

Helander, Hagi, Kamara, Lawrence, Roofe, Davies, Matondo, and Goldson. A combined total of £10M a year and while we’re not claiming every single one of these is a total wage thief on pure contribution, some are, aren’t they?

Is this the best use of our outgoing? To chuck £10M+ a year at just 8 players who haven’t offered value for that?

This is where Ross Wilson has given fat paycheques in return for not a whole hell of a lot – we are reluctant to include James Tavernier, for despite our criticisms of him, he has given us a fair bit back, even if it’s not been where he should be giving it back.

Nevertheless this is also Wilson’s legacy – wasting massive cash on players who don’t deserve it.

And we’ve not even mentioned the £33k on Morelos who didn’t offer a thing after 2020…
