Rangers fans have been given a huge boost after John Souttar’s injury scare was forgotten following the Ibrox and Scotland defender’s successful cameo for his country v Georgia on Tuesday.

Not quite fit enough to start, the former Hearts came on around 72 minutes and enjoyed a solid enough outing, managing an interception on a productive (if a mite long) night for the national team as they ran out 2-0 winners, but it was Souttar’s successful introduction later on that is the most relevant to Rangers fans.

The in-form Govan defender, 27, has been exceptional in his late run at Ibrox at the end of the season, with fans, previously aghast at his poor displays early in the campaign, now completely won over by his impressive shows, many picking him indeed over Connor Goldson.

But the knock which kept him out of Scotland’s win over Norway wasn’t enough to keep him grounded v Georgia, and he started on the bench for the Tartan Army, getting on deep into the second half alongside fellow Rangers team mate Ryan Jack.

And Souttar came through this one unscathed, with the hope now that his small setback ruling him out v Erling Haaland’s side was just that, a minor glitch, and he’s now completely fit and able in time for Rangers’ preseason which is coming up in about 10 days.

The question we really have to ask ourselves is who of Tom Lawrence, Kemar Roofe and Ianis Hagi will be fit and ready to join him?

But the good news is Souttar is fit, and ready for a serious campaign at Ibrox.

We will absolutely need him.
