PSV’s bitter hatred of all things Rangers, spearheaded by arch-nemesis Joey Veerman, has come to a head, or been used by the media, as clickbait insider claims the Dutch Europa League side, Rangers’ conquered foes in the Champions League qualifiers, are to make a move for long-term Ibrox target Todd Cantwell.

In a bizarre twist, clickbait insider have decided to use the ‘dispute’ between the teams (Veerman despises Rangers) as fuel for a transfer story which sees the Eredivisie giants attempt to hijack Rangers’ move for the creative midfielder, purely to stop Rangers getting the player.

On no level would PSV need or even want Cantwell, but they do know Rangers do, in a move which smacks of Ronny Deila and Scott Allan, whereby the former Celtic boss admitted they only signed him to annoy Rangers and our fans.

And a chance to get a pathetic one over on Rangers after we crushed their Champions League dreams would be a petty and small time revenge for them.

Equally though, clickbait insider are well-known for creating fictional stories, exclusives (because they’re not true) which use the Rangers name, and did so so much that they ended up making a dedicated Rangers news site (which bears an uncanny resemblance in appearance and name to Ibrox Noise, funnily enough).

So this could, and likely is, a fabricated pile of nonsense to drive traffic.

But if it actually is true, and they are interested in Cantwell, it is pretty much Deila all over again, a side eager to annoy Rangers by stealing a huge transfer target who, up to that point, completely favoured the move to Ibrox.

It’s certainly an interesting twist, whether it’s fictional or not, and time will tell where the truth really is. Rangers were all set to announce Cantwell imminently, if this story is true it might have to go on ice instead.

PSV on no sense require the services of Cantwell, and it’s an extremely left field target which there’s no reason for them to go for, given they have the likes of Veerman himself et al, so Rangers would be more than confused at them making the move.

We wait with interest.
