The latest nonsense coming out of Ibrox alludes to something Ibrox Noise preached about earlier this season, and were told off not only by pretty much all our readers for, but the idea was mocked by the club too.

We are of course referring to how we demanded, like Ally did, that Rangers be given the Hibs match off before the PSV second leg, in order to keep us fresh, like PSV had for their equivalent. This was roundly mocked (including Kris Boyd calling Ally an idiot) as ‘got to keep momentum going’ and the club confirmed it never asked for such a concession.

Cue present day:

“Well, I mean they had six days off. Their league is thinking about their players so they played the last game last week on Wednesday and come here really fresh.”

Giovanni now saying a day off in between is, in fact, a good idea, for such a critical match. We said this months ago, and were absolutely slaughtered by everyone including Rangers for it, and now suddenly it’s a good thing and should have been done?

We’re exasperated with this season, in truth. While domestic isn’t horrible, it’s falling short, and Europe has been an unmitigated disaster of unprecedented proportions to hardly make us feel much better.

But the comments coming out from the club are just utterly stupid, to pull no punches. One minute the captain is mouthing absolute nonsense, then Giovanni is. We don’t trust what we hear from anyone out of Ibrox right now, given the players, managers and board are all so full of absolute piffle and contradictions.

And now you have Gio agreeing with us about getting help from the league when two+ months ago the idea was just utterly stupid and disgraceful?

We get that time has elapsed, but the idea and principle is exactly the same – you get all the help you can for Europe if something is riding on it. And Rangers lost Ridvan and Davies thanks to not getting the Dons off. Probably our two best defenders right now along with Sands, and both got injured in that match instead.

Not much more needs said.

  1. Every day Gio gets slaughtered but no one has mentioned the horrific amount of injuries we have sustained from the beginning of the season. Playing in the League short handed is tough but going into the Champions league competition with a skeleton squad in impossible. Time to give him and the team some slack.

  2. PSV game was early in the season, so players needed game time, not time off. Got a lot of games under their belt now so don’t need games for match sharpness. Simple.
