Alfredo Morelos will almost certainly sign a pre-contract in January, likely with Fenerbahce, after the Turks whittled a shortlist of new strikers down and he made the final three.

The Colombian’s time at Rangers is finally ending, with his contract expiring next summer, and he will not be signing a new deal, seeing this as his chance to take his career to the next level by getting a better league and a stronger squad than Rangers can provide, and more tellingly, starts.

Morelos has completely fallen away from Rangers’ first team this season, and his performances when given opportunities have been desperately poor and below par, with clear negative body language and wild shooting.

As such, Fenerbahce, who tried to sign him in January for £6M, are considering him as either a Bosman in the summer or a low-cost signing in January, with Rangers now in the position that we are happy to get whatever fee we now can for a player we could have sold for £16.5M a couple of years ago.

If we can sell him to Turkey in January this would be ideal, getting something rather than losing him in the summer, but he is completely free on January 1st to discuss terms with anyone he likes and that may well be the Super Lig giants, who can give him European football in the Europa League as well (they topped their group and sit top of their league too).

He is among a few on their shortlist, and Morelos feels like his career has stalled at Ibrox, with his falling away from the Colombian national side while failing horribly in the UCL with two open goals – his confidence is wrecked, and he needs a fresh start.

And fans are mostly at the end of their patience with him – we all know Morelos has never wanted to stay at Ibrox for an extended period, and the fact he’s still at Rangers after 5 and a half years says a lot about where his mindset now is.

If Rangers can get a few quid in January for him it’s a job well done because his market value isn’t exactly hiking these days to the £30M we might once have got for him. If Rangers can get circa £5M it would be very good business. Otherwise it’s nothing in the summer.
