Rangers have finally got going with their summer transfer market with a surprise swoop for a left winger, in ex-Derby captain Tom Lawrence, who is a Wales international.

The 28-year old, who is mostly a Championship player down south, becomes Gio’s second capture of the summer after he passed a medical yesterday and will sign imminently to bolster Rangers’ attacking options.

The 23-time capped international, who had 3 goals in 9 last season, is not thought to have been signed for depth, but for a starting jersey, and may swap duties with Ryan Kent with flank work, because of course, Rangers still, and for ever more it seem, lack a proper RW.

The club has never had any issue signing LWs, with Kent, Wright, Jones, Murphy, Middleton and a multitude of others all giving that slot a go, but for RW it’s been only Daniel Candeias since the days of Sone Aluko.

So Kent either has competition, a replacement, or a team mate to compliment him.

It’s an interesting addition, and it wasn’t thought that Gio actually wanted another LW in truth. But it’s worth bearing in mind he is versatile and can also play any other forward 6 position.

So perhaps a useful signing.

Rangers’ summer window has finally got started.

  1. Everyone was slagging off Martin B’s numbers but hes scored and assisted more goals tham Lawrence,. Boyles Roughly a 1 in 4 for assists and Goals combined. While Lawrence is 1 in 6 for either scoring or assisting. I would sign both, they can both battle it out for that right side spot.
