He said no thanks... to Mooy....

It’s now clear the summer business is almost complete. After such a slow start in June, July has been absolutely filled with activity, with Rangers securing, on top of precontract John Souttar, a further five players.

So that’s a pure defender, a left sided CB/LB, and 4 attackers (AM, LW/AM, RW, S) at an outlay so far of £8M+.

With Turkey’s Ridvan Yilmaz heavily on the agenda as well, LB would be strongly outfitted on top with Calvin Bassey’s confirmed departure.

But that leaves just one position requiring filling, and that is of course striker.

Rangers currently have only a single available recognised striker option (Colak) and we are not including Fashion Sakala in this.

Alfredo Morelos’ return timescale was yesterday confirmed by Gio (as Ibrox Noise reported a couple of days ago) at around a month, give or take, and he’s touch and go as hell for any of the qualifiers.

Which means a 9 is quite important. It’s not 100% critical, because we do have the Croat, but he needs a bit of support and Gio needs options. Something Fashion Sakala does provide but not the quality to go with it.

The manager now has money, he’s been able to spend, and he’s had support this window, but we need to get it over the line with another body in up front.

It’s not a deal breaker, we’re in decent condition, but it’s something the manager will want to resolve by the time we travel to Belgium.

  1. We typically play with one central striker but when fit we will have Morelos and Colak fighting for one spot. I can’t really see us signing a third quality striker to complicate things further. Any striker is likely to be of the “back up” variety in which case Sakala would probably do, if not one of our youngsters.
