Some Rangers fans have been surprised to learn Ibrox ‘flop’ Amad Diallo’s debatable half season with the Famous has been rewarded by a lucrative Golden Boy nomination.

The award, given annually to a sub-21 year old player of one of Europe’s top five leagues, has been won by luminaries Messi, Rooney, Aguero and Fabregas over the 19 years since its inception, but it’s the Ivorian star’s inclusion this season among the names in the hat that raises an eyebrow.

Not from Ibrox Noise, incidentally, we rated him highly from the word go and despite a difficult time at Ibrox overall, the lad’s talent was evident even if support for him in the spring was very hard to find.

He turned a lot of the boo boys around in May with some solid displays, but even we on Ibrox Noise would be the first to admit we didn’t see the best of him overall, despite his CV and the potential he has.

So this nomination is very intriguing, alongside such candidates as Jude Bellingham and fellow Man Utd team mate Anthony Elanga.

We doubt he’ll win but he can be proud to be included.

He’s a talent, and he has a future – we hope he finds the right club to nurture it if it’s not to be Utd.
