Allan McGregor is taking his time. For Rangers fans wondering what the hold up in an announcement over McGregor’s status with Rangers, this is about Allan McGregor taking some time over making a decision.

From what we understand, McGregor will not be number one for certain next season – he will not be number two, per se, but he will not be the main choice any longer.

He also apparently has a lucrative offer from the UAE on the table for two years.

So his career choice seems to be a coaching squad role at Rangers, or a trip to the Middle East to get rich.

It’s not an easy choice.

McGregor would have no quibbles signing for the club if he was 100% guaranteed first choice next season, but that offer doesn’t appear to be there.

At his age, it’s no surprise. Even the legendary Gigi Buffon was made second choice at Juve around McGregor’s age – this made Buffon move to PSG where ironically he was still second choice.

It is no disgrace for a goalie of his age, reducing form, and non-perfect health to no longer be number one.

But in his heart, of course he wants to be.

He has to decide on Rangers’ offer, the Middle East, or of course, retirement.

And he’s earned the right to take some time.

Maybe not too much though, the season resumes next month….
