GVB may have a major Europa dilemma to call…

Rangers have a major Europa League dilemma beginning to simmer ‘nicely’ as we head into the business end of the season.

As we know, winning 56 is a critical must, with a Champions League group place up for grabs not to mention the glory of overcoming Celtic again.

And while getting the best of Celtic is always ideal for Rangers, there’s a twist this time:

Winning the Europa League also wins that same CL group spot.

Both winning the SPL and winning the UEL secures the same £50M or so for being in the CL.

The differences are financial and footballing – Europa League has us at £6.5M as it is, but that would rise to £16M if we managed the incredible and won it. SPL will win us £3M and that’s it.

Football wise winning the SPL means winning 56, and that’s a big deal, beating Celtic to the league always is, but winning the UEL would be the first Scottish club ever to do so, 3 of our clubs having made it to the final.

And that grandeur on a global scale would be bigger than 56.

56 is personal, the UEL is international.

So, which one do we prioritise?

Both are going to be hard to win, and better people than us will have their own opinions on which one they’d prefer, but Gio may have to make a choice because it’s very hard to give both domestic and European competitions full and equal attention.

For us?

Long term we’d have to say the extra £10M from winning the UEL (£16M total) added to the circa £50M for CL group stage may just shade it for us.

Either way, we’d be delighted to win either – because for Rangers the outcome is great regardless.

Win both? Well that’s into the realm of the quite delightful.

Possibilities…

  1. Has anyone seen Bragas last 5 league games, im sure its something like 2 wins 2 losses and a draw. All against mid to bottom of table teams. I think this will be easier than Red star, also werw they not in Red stars group and came in as runners up ?

  2. never think you can pick and choose your game or competition you want to win that arrogance will just lead to failure on all fronts give everything to every game and competition we are rangers every game is a must win .
all we can ask is to give it your all !!!

  3. Yes they were second in the group. Braga are still a good side though.

There is no guarantee of winning either, If I could chose then the European tropthy for sure as this is much more important than a title in Scotland.

  4. I would like us to always win. We are Rangers However the Europa brings much more respect than the slash SPFL and its green infiltration. Let’s see how it plays out as long as we do our best then that’s all we can ask .
