It is plain for all to see that Borna Barisic is struggling, and an issue Ibrox Noise raised some time ago is just simmering under the surface now.

Rangers really have no single convincing LB solution at all, and work probably should have been done in January to bring in a new body, even a loan.

Many point to Calvin Bassey, but his crossing isn’t up to it, which is absolutely vital for a modern LB. All season Bassey has amassed less than one successful cross every SPL match, for the out of form Barisic it’s almost two and a half.

In Europe Bassey has never put in a single decent cross at all – Barisic has almost one and a half every match.

And Barisic is the one off the pace.

The reality is Barisic is the superior model, all Bassey has over him is better athleticism. He doesn’t have the same quality, especially in the opposing half.

But with the Croat’s headspace not good right now, Bassey is the one more ‘in-form’ albeit he’s hardly convincing.

All of which means Rangers really don’t have a secure answer at LB, bouncing between both players just like we did back in the days of Halliday, Flanagan and Barisic 1.0.

We certainly need someone new in the summer. A quality LB who can make that slot their own.

But so much, SO MUCH depends on securing CL, be that by the shock route of winning the UEL or by the passage of 56.

Unless that happens, our spending power and temptation carrots will remain pretty limited. Whatever the position is.
