GVB v Steven Gerrard in the press – how Rangers’ manager compares
Confirming Roofe, as good as....

We’ve learned a lot about Giovanni van Bronckhorst since he became our manager, but one thing is apparent – the media really don’t know what to do with him.

Steven Gerrard was a darling of the Scottish media – seemingly straight-talking and charismatic, he was a journo’s dream, and the papers and sites (like ours) lapped up his comments poring over every word he said.

Gio is different. Very different.

Gio keeps his cards so close to his chest, as to avoid giving away almost anything to the media.

He keeps the details in-house, and frustrates the watching press with failure pretty much to ever answer a question.

It remains vague, rhetorical, and he gives a tonne of lip service to questions, saying a lot without ever saying anything.

It’s pretty clear he is low on charisma, he doesn’t talk direct, but he rarely tells porkies either.

He’s not manipulative, but he is very smart to avoid ever giving the journos any real meat to feast on.

Indeed, his answers so rarely actually address the question, and sound, in places, borderline political such is the level to which they avoid getting to the point.

In short, he’s rather private.

It’s both good and bad.

It does mean he is never caught lying, or fibbing, or making promises he can’t keep.

This is good.

It’s bad because we get no information and a real sense of disconnect from the fans who kind of want to know things.

But it’s his style.

If he keeps winning, no one will care.

56 is more important than what the manager says in the presser.

Just do wish he’d maybe smile a little more…
