Rangers returned to proper form with a bruising 5-0 demolition of in-form Hearts, who are the clear best of the rest in the SPL.

Ibrox Noise brings you our ratings for an impressive bounce back by Gio’s men.

McGregor:

Had a few saves to make but wasn’t really troubled in this one. Hearts had a little more pressure in the second half but overall it was fairly textbook for McGregor. 6

Tavernier:

Loads of tackles and an interception showed he was already benefiting from Ryan Jack’s return, and while his passing level was poor, his crosses were solid. Worked well to get forward and defended decently. 7

Goldson:

Looked notably grumpy today and we’ve seen better from him, albeit not much of it this season. He was reliable enough, and worked better with Balogun than he has lately with Bassey. Tonne less dithering on the ball. 6

Balogun:

Very good. A shocking booking for an honest tackle, and was everywhere in defence. No one cleared more or commited more defensive blocks. Far better than Bassey in this slot and worked better with Goldson. 8

Bassey:

Ok, had a mare with yet another horror backpass, but aside this he was impressive, defensively anyway. Not great with the crossing but provided lots of width, and looked way hungrier than Barisic. 7

Lundstram:

Surprise pick and was VERY good in his role. Defensively brilliant, stopping tonnes of attacking moves, and his passing was the best on the pitch by a distance of any starter. Had a job to do and did it superbly. Has done his chances of selection the world of good with this performance. 9

Jack:

His impact wasn’t obvious, except when seeing how well the rest played thanks to his being there. Jack just does the dirty work, and let Tav and Kent go forward, supporting them now and again himself. Was given a nasty hack by a Hearts boy, and did struggle a little with mobility after that. 8

Kent:

Absolutely slaughtered after the Old Firm, except by Ibrox Noise and a minority of others, even being slaughtered before kick off today. He shut everyone up with a superb display, aided by Jack’s return, and should have scored twice. Two assists, and hopefully the protests about him will be quiet now. 9

Arfield:

A great goal, loads of energy, and just keeps going. Arfield can be completely content with what he’s giving this season and has earned his new deal. 8

Aribo:

Quieter perhaps from the Nigerian, but still able to get involved – he hasn’t quite regained his form since returning from Africa, and he’s allowed to have a lull. Certainly wasn’t poor though and played his part. 7

Morelos:

Well, hungry Morelos is the best striker in the country, bar none, and he was hungry. He got out his rage over the Colombia debacle by showing up on the pitch, and showed how much we missed him. Two goals and an assist – it was close to perfect. Hell, it was perfect. 10

Subs:

Kamara:

The unfortunate victim of rotation, but he had a cracking match when he came on, and scored a truly stunning goal. He could not have done more to plead for his place again. 8

Sakala:

Took his goal great, and was filled with energy. What more can you ask for? 8

Ramsey:

Wasn’t able to make a big statement, passing a little wary and clearly miles off fitness. Still has a way to go to get into this side. 5

Diallo and Davis were just there to get minutes in them. N/A

Gio:

He made the ruthless changes and boy did they work for him. Every player put in a shift, and he got as many minutes into as many legs as he could. He learned quickly from his errors on Wednesday and the shape was way better and the attitude way hungrier. He couldn’t have asked for much more today. 9

  1. Phew. We needed that!

You called it correct with the team selection. Roll the sleeves up and win. It was a bonus we did it with style.

Offensively we were superb. If that Alfredo Morelos turns up the rest of the season then we will win the league. Lundstram strolled it and has to keep his place. Bassey, whilst still raw and has a mistake in him, wears his heart on his sleeve.

Defensively we were quite worrying. Something just didn’t look right. Whether it was formation, shape, tactics, sitting too deep or two defensive midfielders, Hearts still got themselves into some dangerous positions (up until we scored our second). I know we kept a clean sheet but better opposition would have punished us!
