Finally, finally.... (Credit Rangers FC)

With today’s win v Hearts, Rangers have done something the team has been unable to do since gaining promotion back to the SPL – play well after Christmas.

For 3+ years, following a winter break, the side would crumble post-New Year and the form would consistently go down. This wasn’t even patchy; the run after Xmas would be 100% poor, with stale, stagnant displays, and sure, enough wins to avoid anarchy, but certainly unreliable performances.

Today’s romper stomping crushing of Hearts was the first time in nearly half a decade Rangers have produced a win after new year with style, panache and flow, and Giovanni van Bronckhorst has just shown the unique ability to get Rangers playing at this time of year again.

He got Wednesday wrong, we all know he messed up.

But boy did he fix it today, and produce a side with a gameplan which didn’t give Hearts room to breathe.

It wasn’t till Rangers took the foot off the gas start of the second half that the opponents got into it a bit (well, if some fans are going to discredit our renaissance in the second 45 on Wednesday by claiming Celtic did the same at Parkhead then we can too), but consequently lifted it back up to nail a glut of goals, claiming 5 in the end.

5 well deserved.

And thus proving the post new year blues CAN be beaten, if you have the right manager, set up, hunger and squad.

It just took the side a little time to readjust.

Oh, and having your best players back sure as **** helps too…
