Could Rangers make summer move for 30-yo SPL rival?

Following his heroics on Sunday, calls for Rangers to step up their interest in Dundee Utd’s Benjamin Siegrist have increased with the Swiss stopper arguably the most in-form goalie in the SPL now.

A former youth international for his country, the 30 year old never quite stepped up to the top level in football, but has had honourable spells with Vaduz, Villa, and Wycombe, before switching to the SPL four years ago.

And he has admitted he’s got an eye on the Rangers number one jersey, and it was on the table last summer, till it went cold.

We saw just how impressive he is at Tannadice, albeit clearly when he’s facing us he sees it as an audition, the shop window.

And he pulled out every stop, literally, to show he’s got what it takes.

Is he good enough long term?

He’s not a patch on classic Allan McGregor, but our old warhorse is getting close to retirement now and hasn’t been a patch on classic McGregor himself this season, but then neither is deputy Jon McLaughlin.

We’re not sure Siegrist is good enough to be number one but he’d certainly be a good number two.

But of course, McLaughlin signed a new deal so we’ve got him for quite a while longer.

Unless the hierarchy don’t rate Robby McCrorie enough, and want Siegrist as number one, we’re not sure how the Swiss would fit in.

We’ll say this – he did, however, his chances no harm at all at the weekend.

One to watch.

  1. I rate him and think he would be even better in our set up. Only problem will be dealing with that shower Utd who hold no respect or fondness for the Famous.
