Sources: Rangers could still secure two defenders before February

Rangers are close to securing two January defensive arrivals after the John Souttar and Danilho Doekhi pursuits took some twists in the past 24 hours.

The Souttar Saga seems to have been boosted by Rangers either becoming more willing to shell out the full asking price, or by Hearts reducing it a bit, and with a spot of luck and fortune the Gorgie man could make his way to Govan before February.

And the chase for the Dutchman Doekhi also took a plot turn after it became apparent he is now likely to leave Vitesse immediately, with sources claiming it’s down to Rangers and Croatians Dinamo Zagreb, and that the 23-year old is more interested in the Famous than the Eastern Bloc giants.

Rangers are desperate to get some defensive additions in before February, given Leon Balogun’s fitness isn’t reliable, neither is Filip Helander’s, Jack Simpson isn’t good enough if he’s even staying, and Connor Goldson’s future is an issue of contention.

So if both Doekhi and Souttar can arrive in the next few days that would be a giant help for GVB.

We’ll see if it transpires.

  1. Would be a major boost if we can get a defender in before deadline I’d pay for doekhi before I’d give Heart’s any blue notes
