Gio gives Rangers January transfer squad update
Gio opens that door for Souttar....

The sentence that has been seized on by cheap journos and lazy websites was delivered by GVB in a recent presser, that he wants to have a ‘quality squad’ by the time the January window ends.

Well… the part they all missed out was what he actually meant by that.

This did not indicate new signings, nor did it suggest keeping all his best players. The context Giovanni was getting at was that he already has a quality squad, and he still wants to have one come February.

Well, no kidding, folks. ‘Rangers manager wants a good squad for the rest of the season’ shocker, as if he would say he wants to end January with a bad one.

No, it’s just standard fare for a manager to say, and bear in mind, Gio’s first language isn’t English, of course, so sometimes he does slightly struggle for the right word, which, in fairness, most of us English speakers also do.

But at base level, like any sensible manager, in an idea world he wants to shed the dead wood and make some quality additions.

He also wants to keep his best players.

That would leave Rangers with a quality squad, just like we currently have – our weakness presently is that injury crisis, which has left approaching 6 first-team members sidelined. We hope to have big Leon Balogun back this week and for the next fixture after Christmas, but in terms of the actual standard it’s pretty good.

And the manager wants that maintained.

And surely strengthened. We’ll see what we can do in the window.
