Rangers have been given a small defensive boost after GVB confirmed Nigeria’s Leon Balogun should be back in training this week, following an injury lay off for the ex-Werder man.

The 33-year old stopper has been solid this season for the Famous, with some impressive performances at the back, but suffered a small injury setback against Hibs in the cup in November, and has missed all matches since.

The boss confirmed he’s fit again, but was unavailable for Saturday due to personal reasons, and is expected back in full training this week.

Calvin Bassey, in fairness, has been filling in impressively centrally, but with doubt over LB Borna Barisic and his fitness/illness, Balogun’s return is extremely timely and could afford GVB the flexibility of Bassey at left back and Balogun partnering Goldson.

What we know for sure is the definitely fits seem to be Tavernier, Patterson, Goldson, Balogun, and Bassey.

And that should be enough till the Old Firm.
