6-man shortage as absence list grows for Rangers
GLASGOW, SCOTLAND - MARCH 18: Borna Barisic of Rangers warms up prior to the UEFA Europa League Round of 16 Second Leg match between Rangers and Slavia Praha at Ibrox Stadium on March 18, 2021 in Glasgow, Scotland. Only a week or two after being given a near-clean bill of health, Rangers have suddenly been plunged into a mini injury crisis.

Confirmed absentees (with no ETA on any of them) are Ryan Jack, Leon Balogun, Kemar Roofe, Nnamdi Oboforh, Filip Helander and possibly Borna Barisic and having 6 men unavailable is far from ideal.

True, Rangers haven’t struggled in their absences, racking up 6 wins of 7 of manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s fledgling reign, and also true, some of the absences are long-term.

But these additions of Roofe (knock) and Barisic (illness) add up and Barisic especially has evolved well under Gio to become a much more disciplined left back.

Of course, we could argue Calvin Bassey could just cover for Barisic if need be, but then, who partners Goldson? Simpson? Has it come to that? Or could young Leon King get the nod?

A little bit of a pickle for now for Rangers with injuries and absences, but the team has motored along well under the new boss regardless of who’s played so we’d like to think even 6 missing players won’t make too much difference to things.

  1. I would go for King and movie Bassey along 1 into his more natural position. Could be perfect chance to get 1 or 2 youngsters involved.
