Ok so he’s Dutch, and yes, he’s the rising star of Total Football, but there is no chance of PSG superstar Xavi Simons coming anywhere near Ibrox despite GVB being our manager.

Literally Europe’s best teams want this kid, and Rangers being linked to him reminds us very much of the ‘not happening’ affair of a couple of years ago featuring Atletico’s Rodrigo Riquelme who these days is on loan at LaLiga2 side Mirandes.

See, the difference between Simons and Riquelme is Simons’ agent is Mino Raiola, who gets the best clubs and deals for his clients. Riquelme has Kia Joorabchian who while decent enough isn’t on the same level as the Dutch-Italian Raiola.

Simons is a top player, of that there’s no doubt, and Rangers being linked to him echoes slightly of when Eck went for Messi, and nearly got him.

But Simons is attracting big attention from Europe’s biggest clubs and despite those clubs’ inability to guarantee him minutes, Rangers managing to lure him ahead of them would be literally a staggering signing.

And even the most optimistic of us can’t see it happening.

But yes, he will be leaving in the summer if PSG don’t play him more. We just don’t see that being to Ibrox…
