Should Rangers try to hijack major Milan target?

With news that Italian giants AC Milan are potentially looking at Bologna’s Scottish LB Aaron Hickey, we once again find ourselves mentioning Rangers in connection with the ex-Hearts defender.

He has a market value now into the £10M region and it’s safe to say that Rangers’ options at left back, which previously looked non-troubling with a prime Borna Barisic, are now a little more frail with the Croat way off the pace these days and Calvin Bassey not yet fully proven long term as a worthy Rangers LB just yet.

As such, Hickey is one we’d potentially be intrigued by.

He’s clearly good enough, given he’s now a regular in Serie A, and if he’s good enough for the best team in Italy to be looking at, he’s good enough for Rangers in fairness.

He’s probably a little out of our budget in truth, with a deal until 2024, but with CL cash secured next summer, hopefully, Rangers will have a much stronger transfer kitty to deal with.

Is he worth bringing in?

Rangers need to sort out LB – Barisic’s future is uncertain and his form is far from good. And of course Bassey hasn’t quite grasped the LB slot for his own yet, with Stevie gently digging at him that he lacks experience hence he didn’t get the call for Thursday.

But then, we suppose, Hickey has even less. No UEL at all.

But he does have Italy and that’s a very high standard.

Is he feasible? Probably not, but it does highlight that we do need to tighten LB a bit.
