Steven Gerrard has confirmed bad news for Ryan Jack after the midfielder’s return was delayed by around a month following Wednesday’s consultation with a specialist.

The long-term absentee, 29, has been out with calf issues since February and surgery earlier this year forced him out of the Euros, but it had been hoped Wednesday’s D-Day with the consultant would yield positive news.

Sadly it didn’t, and Jack remains unable to return to full training and may not be seen now until early September, ruling him out for the CL qualifiers and the start of the season.

It’s a blow, and it is extremely disappointing, and it starts to raise serious questions on the lad’s career, sadly, but the only positive has been the bright start by John Lundstram who is basically playing in Jack’s position now.

As for Jack, he’ll be devastated – he was excited about returning to full training ASAP but it’s been put on hold yet again.

When will we see the lad back?
