Rangers have formally made their first summer big-money bid in an attempt to lure Elfsborg’s Joseph Okumu to Ibrox, but are considerably behind the queue of present suitors.

Celtic, along with Lorient and Reims and Belgian side Gent are fighting it out for his signature as well, and with Elfsborg holding out for around £4M, it’s the French pair said to be at the front of the queue.

It’s Rangers’ first serious money attempt at a major summer addition, with the 24-year old CB ready to make the move from Sweden and now having a choice of Scotland, France and Belgium to move onto.

Rangers and Celtic can both offer CL participation, which none of the continental clubs can, but the player reportedly prefers France and the chance to play in Ligue 1.

So at the end of the day he has the choice of Motherwell or Marseille every other week, or a chance to compete in the CL.

It’s a tough one in truth, and of course Rangers are a massive club compared with all other four rivals. But our league is a huge drag.

We’ll see which one Okumu goes for.
